Pashinyan hopes for EU assistance in combating disinformation and hate on social media

Armenia hopes for the European Union's assistance in combating the spread of disinformation and hate on social media, said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Pashinyan, expert and institutional support is necessary for continuing reforms in Armenia, and cooperation with the EU in this regard is very important.

“I can thank our European partners for their assistance – from issues of ensuring the independence of the judiciary to matters related to countering hybrid threats, which is part of our agenda,” Pashinyan said.

He noted that on several occasions during discussions in the EU, he has highlighted that the spread of disinformation and hate rhetoric on social media, and sometimes in the media, is a problem for many EU countries as well.

“We are facing this problem today, and of course, we hope that the European Union will assist us here in terms of sharing experience or providing greater access to the tools already implemented in the EU for application in Armenia,” Pashinyan said.

It should be noted that the first Armenia-EU summit begins today in Armenia.
