Armenian government expands powers to block arms export and transit
The Armenian government has expanded its powers to block the export and transit of arms.
Corresponding amendments to the licensing procedure for foreign trade in military goods were adopted at a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
In particular, state security bodies will be able to deny defense enterprises a license for export or resale if they perceive a risk to the security or interests of Armenia in their trade activities.
As noted in the explanatory note to the decision, such an amendment is introduced to prevent, as far as possible, the sale (including indirect) to potential adversaries of Armenia and its allies, as well as to terrorist groups.
It should be noted that during the 2025 accountability conference, Armenia's Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, stated that Armenian defense enterprises have started receiving export licenses.
