Pashinyan states he will seize Araratcement plant from Tsarukyan
The Ararat cement plant (owned by businessman and leader of the Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan) will soon become state property.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made the statement during a campaign event in the Shnokh settlement of Lori Province.
Pashinyan recalled that ahead of the 2021 parliamentary elections he had promised to launch similar processes regarding the Zangezur copper-molybdenum combine, one of the country’s largest enterprises. According to him, that promise has been fulfilled.
The government has already received prosecutorial reports stating that the property is subject to nationalization, he said. In the near future a temporary state administrator will be appointed at the plant, similar to the case of Electric Networks of Armenia.
In this connection Pashinyan stated that “plant employees should no longer follow instructions from the owner Gagik Tsarukyan and his son-in-law Karapet Guloyan unless they relate to the production process.”
The Ararat cement plant is considered one of the largest assets of businessman and Prosperous Armenia party leader Gagik Tsarukyan. The enterprise was built in the late 1980s and privatized in 2002.
