Pashinyan states 'strategic agreement' on Russian gas price

Armenia and Russia have reached a clear strategic agreement on the gas price, and it cannot change.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence in this.

"Regarding the gas price increase - this cannot happen, because we have a contract. This contract is in effect, and it is mutually beneficial. This agreement has conditions, and regarding the gas price we have reached clear strategic agreements, and they must be observed," he stated at a briefing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with Prime Minister Pashinyan on April 1 pointed to a large difference between the price of Russian gas for Armenia and gas prices in Europe. According to the Russian leader, now gas prices in Europe exceed $600 per 1 thousand cubic meters, while Russia sells gas to Armenia for $177.5 per thousand cubic meters.

On April 4, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated that the country will leave the CSTO, EAEU and other structures if gas prices are raised. On May 21, Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan reported that mechanisms have been developed in the republic in case of an increase in prices for Russian gas.
