Polish president accuses defense minister of stupidity
Polish President Karol Nawrocki accused Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz of stupidity and failing to do his job during a meeting with journalists.
"Mr. Kosiniak-Kamysz committed a stupidity and did not do his job," Nawrocki is quoted as saying by the internet portal Interia.pl.
This was how the head of state responded to a statement made on May 28 by the defense minister that "the president's chancellery is not the navel of the earth" and that the government is not obliged to inform the president in advance about all prepared international agreements.
The latest stage of the conflict between the president and the government was triggered by a defense and security agreement signed on May 27 by Polish and British Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and Keir Starmer, the text of which Nawrocki had not been familiarized with in advance.
"I am informing the government once again: if you want me to sign something, then inform me about the content of the document being signed," Nawrocki said. "I do not think that any president would sign documents that he does not know."
