Armenian investigative committee reveals preparation of Pashinyan assassination
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has established the identity of one of the key figures in the criminal case on preparation of the assassination of Prime Minister of the Republic Nikol Pashinyan.
He turned out to be a citizen located outside the country.
This is stated in a message from the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
It was possible to track down the conspirators during large-scale investigative actions by the Yerevan investigative department, which included about two dozen interrogations and numerous searches.
According to the investigation, the suspect (initials M. M.), living abroad, acted as part of an organized group that included at least four more people. The motive of the conspirators was the political and state activities of the prime minister.
The investigation has facts confirming the targeted preparation for the assassination attempt. Group members tracked the routes of Nikol Pashinyan, the schedules of his election campaigns, and also purchased special clothing and masks to conceal their identities.
In addition, the participants recorded and distributed a video appeal on the internet with threats against the head of government. This refers to a high-profile video published online in which a group of armed people in masks voiced direct threats and insults against Pashinyan. The Investigative Committee noted that the publication was accompanied by computer sabotage.
A criminal case has been initiated against M. M., who is hiding abroad, under articles on preparation of the murder of a person in connection with his implementation of state or political activities, committed by a group of persons, as well as on obstructing election campaigning.
The court has already issued a warrant for the arrest of the main suspect; he has been officially put on the wanted list.
Currently, the Investigative Committee continues a comprehensive investigation. The case is being conducted simultaneously under articles on preparation of murder, illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition, as well as computer sabotage. Law enforcement officers are identifying the remaining members of the armed group.
