Explosion occurs on cargo ship in Iraq's territorial waters in Persian Gulf
Iraqi media reported an explosion on a cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag that occurred in the south of the country near the port of Umm Qasr in the Persian Gulf.
According to a report from the Iraqi TV channel Alsumaria News citing sources in the security forces, the explosion occurred on the Panamanian-flagged vessel "MSC SARISKY V", which left the port of Umm Qasr after unloading.
Details about the condition of the vessel and the nature of the explosion are not reported.
Iraqi authorities have not yet made an official statement regarding this incident.
The Khor Abdullah area, where the port of Umm Qasr is located, is known as an important maritime transport corridor between Iraq and the Persian Gulf. Various incidents related to maritime navigation security occur from time to time in this area.
