Famous banana worth 6.2 million dollars stolen from French museum
In France, the art object "Comedian" by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan was stolen from the Centre Pompidou-Metz for 6.2 million dollars, Zakon.kz reports.
The installation is a banana glued to the wall with gray duct tape. The art object was part of the exhibition Un Dimanche Sans Fin, which featured 40 works by Cattelan, according to the exhibition website.
In 2019, the art object was valued at 120 thousand dollars, and in 202 it was sold at auction for 6.24 million dollars.
The buyer of the work of art was crypto investor Justin Sun. After the purchase, he peeled off the banana and ate it.
According to Times, the museum guard noticed the banana's disappearance on the morning of May 30. This was immediately reported to the police, and a criminal case was opened.
