Number of Ebola deaths in DR Congo exceeds 110

The number of confirmed cases of Ebola fever in the Democratic Republic of the Congo as of June 8 has risen to 598, with 115 people having died.

This is reported by the country's Ministry of Communications and Media on the social network X.

The department emphasized that 297 patients are currently receiving treatment in medical institutions, and another 22 people have recovered.

The ministry also added that the contact tracing rate for infected individuals is 56.3%, and the overall Ebola fatality rate in the country is 19.2%.

On May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola fever outbreak in the DR Congo and Uganda a public health emergency. There are no approved treatments or vaccines against the spreading Bundibugyo strain. For this reason, palliative medical care, including isolation, fluid replacement for those infected, and pain relief, is vital.

Cases of the fever have been confirmed in three provinces of the DRC and Uganda. Health officials and humanitarian organization staff complain about the lack of basic necessities, such as masks. There is also an insufficient number of medical workers in the region.
