US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with the television channel Fox News that if he had led the country during the Vietnam War, then unlike the American leadership of those years he would have been able to achieve victory in the conflict in three or four months.
“We were in Vietnam for 19 years and did not cope, because, frankly speaking, we did not have the right leadership. If it had been me, then I would have dealt with this war in three to four months,” said the head of the White House.
According to Trump, it was the lack of a tough and effective strategy that led then to a protracted military clash.
The conflict between the US and Vietnam, which lasted from 1955 to 1975, became one of the largest military clashes in the second half of the 20th century. The war ended with the liberation of the country's largest city, Saigon, by the Vietnamese People's Army from South Vietnamese troops, which were supported by the US Armed Forces.
