Vance says IAEA and US will help Iran destroy stockpiles of highly enriched uranium

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United States plan to help Iran destroy stockpiles of highly enriched uranium; this is stipulated in a memorandum of understanding, US Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with NBC News.

"In fact, one of the key parts of the agreement is that [the International Atomic Energy Agency] and the United States are going to help Iran destroy stockpiles of highly enriched uranium, and that is very clearly spelled out," Vance said.

The US vice president clarified that the text of the memorandum of understanding will be published after the official signing ceremony on Friday in Switzerland.

According to him, the start date for nuclear inspections may also be determined on Friday.

"But we expect that (...) there are not many disagreements on this particular issue, and it should happen very quickly," the vice president added.

He clarified: if the Iranians fulfill all the conditions, then "they will benefit."

"And that is what we hope to see," Vance noted.

The US vice president stated: "I want them to have a successful country, but only if they do everything necessary to abandon the creation of nuclear weapons in the long term."
