IAEA hopes to begin inspections of nuclear facilities in Iran soon

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expects to begin inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities soon as part of the agreements reached between the United States and Iran.

This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

"One thing is indisputable: there is a memorandum of understanding. And it directly states that the nuclear part of the memorandum will be under supervision. The IAEA carries out the supervision. To carry out supervision, it is necessary to conduct inspections — there is no other way. Technical work has already begun, and we expect to start inspections in the near future," he told journalists at the Japan National Press Club.

Speaking about the location of stocks of highly enriched uranium in Iran, the IAEA head noted that they are most likely "in the same place as in June 2025."

"It is widely believed that they are in the same place as in June 2025. Most of them are at the Fordow facility, and also partially in Natanz. This is our understanding, but to confirm it, it is necessary first of all to gain access," he explained, recalling that during the last visit in June 2025, IAEA specialists "measured, weighed and sealed all this material." "Therefore, before starting any actions, we need to return and check whether our seals are intact, whether any part of the material is missing. This is the priority task," emphasized the IAEA head.
