Iran and Qatar agree to unblock $6 billion in assets
Iran and Qatar have agreed to unblock $6 billion out of a total of $12 billion in Iranian assets held in the emirate.
This was stated by President of the Islamic Republic Masoud Pezeshkian.
"According to the agreements reached, $6 billion out of the total $12 billion in Iranian funds held in Qatar will be unblocked and returned to the country. Work is also ongoing to return the remaining portion of these funds," the Iranian president's press service quoted him as saying.
On June 20, The Wall Street Journal reported that the United States, together with Qatar, is working on a mechanism allowing Iran to use part of its frozen assets to purchase humanitarian goods. According to the publication, Tehran may first gain access to the $6 billion stored in Qatar.
