Qatar's foreign ministry sees no progress on unfreezing Iranian assets
The parties to indirect U.S.-Iranian talks have not yet made progress on unfreezing $6 billion in Iranian assets.
This was stated by Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari, the official representative of Qatar's Foreign Ministry.
"The issue of transferring the funds <...> depends on the consent of the parties and the progress of the negotiations, which, of course, has not happened yet," he said at a briefing.
The diplomat recalled that the funds in question were to be transferred under the 2023 Iran-U.S. agreement for use for humanitarian purposes. "Qatar is not the owner of these funds; it is only acting as a financial intermediary for managing them," al-Ansari explained.
