NATO announces creation of transport aircraft fleet

NATO announced the creation of its own fleet of tanker aircraft and transport aviation aircraft, as well as the formation of a group of long-range reconnaissance MQ-4C Triton drones.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the NATO Defense Industry Forum.

"Today, a number of NATO countries announced the purchase of dozens of Airbus aircraft as part of a multinational initiative to create a fleet of 12 tanker and long-range transport aircraft," Rutte said.

"Another multinational initiative will provide NATO with a group of five multifunctional MQ-4C Triton drones from Northrop Grumman, capable of remaining in the air for a long time at high altitude, providing the necessary reconnaissance information," Rutte said, emphasizing that this contract will provide jobs "on both sides of the Atlantic."

He did not specify when these aircraft and drones will be ready to perform tasks.
