Truck rams several cars in Mexico, 16 people killed
At least 16 people were killed, and several more are listed as missing as a result of a major traffic accident on the Guadalajara-Tepic highway.
This was reported by the newspaper Excélsior, citing the National Commission for Emergency Situations in the state of Nayarit.
According to the publication, the truck was unable to brake and at speed crashed into several cars that had stopped on the highway due to a previous accident. The strong impact provoked a large-scale fire that engulfed the vehicles, which seriously complicated rescue operations.
In addition to the dead civilians, two employees of the Mexican National Guard were seriously injured. The driver of the truck was detained and handed over to the competent authorities to clarify all the circumstances.
A search operation continues at the scene. Emergency services do not rule out that the number of victims may increase.
