The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has a new chief
Major General Igor Skybyuk will be appointed to the post of chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.
“We have determined the procedure for further steps. Today, decisions on changing the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be formalized – the corresponding decrees are being prepared. Together with [Commander-in-Chief of the AFU] Mykhailo Drapaty and [acting Minister of Defense] Yevhen Khmara, we have determined that Major General Igor Skybyuk will become the new chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – a very experienced military man with whom the new Commander-in-Chief defended Ukraine shoulder to shoulder,” Zelensky wrote on social media.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized the importance of all components of the army continuing to function in complete coordination.
“We also determined together how in the future Oleksandr Syrskyi (already former Commander-in-Chief of the AFU) and Andriy Gnatov (former Chief of the General Staff) will serve to protect our state. We discussed what organizational decisions need to be implemented. In particular, this concerns the development of Ukrainian cyber forces, the training of warriors and strengthening the capabilities of our units, and the development of the corps system,” the president noted.
