Narek Karapetyan banned from leaving the country
Member of the political council of the "Strong Armenia" bloc Narek Karapetyan has been banned from leaving the country, Sputnik Armenia was told at the Prosecutor General's Office.
In his case, another preventive measure has also been applied – bail in the amount of 1 billion drams ($2.6 million).
The day before, Armenia's CEC returned the prosecutor's office petition by which the agency requested consent to deprive the elected deputy of liberty.
Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office initiated public criminal prosecution against Karapetyan. The case is related to criminal proceedings in which a colleague of the leader of the "Strong Armenia" bloc Alik Aleksanyan has been arrested.
It is noted that Aleksanyan is accused of money laundering on an especially large scale and bribing voters. This is not the first criminal proceeding in which the investigation considers payments to supporters of the "Strong Armenia" bloc as a possible hidden form of voter bribery.
According to the Investigative Committee, Aleksanyan, as founder and executive director of the public organization "In His Own Way," from October 2025 to March 2026 received about $4.4 million and 230 thousand euros from the "Tashir" fund in the form of gifts and loans.
