Moldova's agriculture minister resigns two days after appointment

Moldova's Agriculture Minister Radu Mustyatsé resigned two days after the new government began work.

This was reported by the republic's Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

"Mustyatsé today submitted a letter of resignation from the post of Minister of Agriculture, which I accepted. It was a personal decision, an act dictated by a sense of responsibility and dictated by the desire to protect public trust in the government and in the process of governing the country," Tofan wrote on Facebook.

Immediately after Mustyatsé's appointment, materials appeared in the press about his membership in the Democratic Party of Moldova, which was headed by the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who was convicted today. Mustyatsé sharply denied membership, calling the information fake. Then photographs of him with former Democrats appeared in the public space.

Tofan headed the cabinet of ministers after the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu. He left almost a third of the ministers who worked under Munteanu in their posts, who in turn inherited most of the cabinet members from the government of Dorin Recean. Among the new people in Tofan's cabinet was Mustyatsé, as well as Victoria Belous, who headed the Ministry of Finance. Alexander Gasnash was appointed the new head of the Ministry of Health, and Dan Surucanu the Ministry of Culture.

Parliament and government in Moldova are controlled by the Party of Action and Solidarity. The resignations of prime ministers appointed by the party occurred against the backdrop of falling ratings and growing public discontent with the situation in the economy. Thus, Natalia Gavrilița lasted 18 months in her post, Recean - more than two and a half years, and Munteanu - 8 months.
