Zelensky: Putin blocks negotiations
President Vladimir Zelensky stated that US leader Donald Trump wants to end the war in Ukraine, but the problem is that Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate even about a temporary ceasefire.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an interview of the head of state for Fox News.
"We want to stop this war. President Trump wants to stop this war, and the Europeans want to stop it. Putin does not. Every day we ask for negotiations at least about a ceasefire for some period of time and for diplomats to have the opportunity to negotiate. But Putin does not want this. This is the problem," Zelensky said.
He added that it is for this reason that it is necessary to respond, to be tough and strong. According to Zelensky, Ukraine is counting on sanctions.
Recall that yesterday Vladimir Zelensky arrived in the US, where he held a meeting with US President Donald Trump. The leaders of the states discussed the license for the production of Patriot interceptor missiles in Ukraine, and also spoke about the peace process.
An RBC-Ukraine source reported that in the coming weeks, Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may arrive in Kyiv. The main topic of the meeting will be the diplomatic settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine.
It was also noted that at night Zelensky held a meeting with US senators, after which they voted for a procedural decision that opens the way to a vote on Graham's package of "hellish sanctions" against Russia. Zelensky emphasized that this is definitely a step toward peace.
According to media reports, the Senate intends to try to approve the document before senators go on vacation in August. But after that, a vote in the House of Representatives will still be necessary, which returns from vacation in September.
