Media: Trump names condition for the start of talks with Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to give peace talks with Iran a chance, provided that Tehran agrees to a cease-fire.
This was reported by the New York Post, citing an American official.
"This is the basis of any negotiations — they begin with a cease-fire, and Iran must be the first to agree to it," the newspaper's source said. "The president [of the United States] has made it very clear that he would like to reach a deal as soon as possible. But if the Iranians continue to attack ships, attack American bases, attack [U.S.] allies in the Persian Gulf, they will have to pay a price for that," the newspaper's interlocutor added.
According to the New York Post, the parties are continuing technical consultations and are engaging with mediators.
