Liechtenstein hit by large-scale cyberattack
The Principality of Liechtenstein has been targeted by a large-scale hacker attack.
This was reported by the country's government.
The target of the cyberattack was Liechtenstein's state register of beneficial owners. On the night of July 30, the attackers gained unauthorized access to the register, which is maintained for the purposes of preventing money laundering and the financing of terrorism. As a result, the data of about 31,000 legal entities was compromised.
The government of Liechtenstein emphasized that there are no signs in the register that any data was altered or deleted. A crisis team has been set up in connection with the incident.
On July 31, it was reported that a major Russian bank, one of the country's top 10, had been subjected to a large-scale carpet DDoS attack from July 27 to July 30.
On the same day, the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) warned of an increase in hacker attacks on water supply systems.
