Iran will not open the Strait of Hormuz immediately after reaching an agreement with Oman

Iran will not open the Strait of Hormuz immediately after reaching an agreement with Oman

Reaching an agreement between Iran and Oman on a route through the Strait of Hormuz will not mean that the waters will immediately be open to shipping.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Baghaei.

"Reaching an agreement on a safe shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz is a necessary but insufficient condition for opening the strait," he emphasized during a press conference. Baghaei added that the reason for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was not disagreements between Tehran and Muscat, but the aggression of the United States and Israel toward Iran.
