Trump called Venezuelan oil a U.S. trophy
The head of the American administration, Donald Trump, speaking on August 5 in a suburb of Las Vegas (state of Nevada), called Venezuelan oil a trophy that has gone to the United States.
"Billions of barrels of oil are coming out of Venezuela. It is one of the places richest in oil fields in the world," the American leader declared, at the same time calling the military operation in Caracas — as a result of which American troops seized and removed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife — a "48-minute war."
According to Trump, the United States acted "the old-fashioned way," receiving through Venezuelan oil "many times more than it spent" on carrying out the operation. "To the victor go all the spoils," he added. He also cited estimates according to which the United States and Venezuela possess 60% of the world's oil and gas reserves.
On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military facilities in Venezuela, seized and removed its president and his wife. On January 5, they appeared before the federal court for the Southern District of New York. They are charged with involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro and his wife did not admit guilt. The functions of head of state in Venezuela are being performed by authorized president Delcy Rodriguez, who under Maduro held the post of executive vice president of the republic.
