Due to low water levels in the Rhine, a 500-kg World War II bomb was found in Cologne
Not far from the "Rheinpark" park in Cologne, Germany, a large World War II bomb has surfaced due to extremely low water levels in the Rhine River.
This was reported by the dpa agency, citing representatives of the city authorities.
In connection with the discovery of the 500-kilogram American aerial bomb, city authorities plan to evacuate about 360 people living or working within a 400-meter radius of the site of the find. Among those affected by the evacuation are residents of a nursing home and employees of the nearby RTL television studios.
The water level in the Rhine at Cologne has again reached a record low due to prolonged heat and drought. On Thursday, the indicator dropped to 67 centimeters, matching the historic minimum recorded just a few days earlier. The low water level has disrupted navigation on Germany's busiest inland waterway.
