Armenia plans to apply for European Union membership

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the country's intention to begin the official process of applying for membership in the European Union in the near future.

The head of government noted that the decision is being made with regard to the foreign policy context and consultations with partners in the EAEU, Telegram channels report. As one of the intermediate stages of integration, Yerevan expects to achieve liberalization of the visa regime with the EU by 2029.

Pashinyan also clarified the procedure for holding a nationwide referendum on the issue of European integration. According to him, the plebiscite will take place only after the official submission of the application, the receipt of a response from Brussels, and the development of a joint action plan.
