Robert Kocharyan arrested for two months

Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan, has been arrested for a term of two months. This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

The corresponding decision was issued by Anti-Corruption Court judge Sargis Dadoyan. Kocharyan himself is currently in the hospital, where he was taken after a lengthy court session.

The consideration of the motion to arrest the ex-president lasted about seven hours. As his son, parliament member Levon Kocharyan, reported, after Robert Kocharyan was returned to the hospital, the session continued with the participation of lawyers.

Earlier, the ex-president was brought to the Anti-Corruption Court directly from the medical facility. He was hospitalized after his detention due to a deterioration in his health following a recently undergone stenting procedure.

Robert Kocharyan has been charged in a case involving the illegal acquisition of property. According to the investigation, during his presidency he, in collusion with other individuals and using his official position, acquired a number of facilities of public and economic significance at below-market value.
