Australia legalizes voluntary euthanasia nationwide

Voluntary euthanasia has become legal throughout Australia after the country's last region where it was banned passed a law legalizing the procedure.

This was reported by the broadcasting corporation ABC.

Under the new law of the parliament of Australia's Northern Territory, any person suffering from an incurable illness that could lead to death within 12 months will be able to request the procedure. Medical workers will be prohibited from raising the topic of voluntary euthanasia with patients on their own initiative.

The Northern Territory was the first region in the country to legalize voluntary euthanasia in 1995.

However, that law was repealed two years later following a ban by the federal government.
