Two cargo ships collide off the coast of Silivri, fate of 10 sailors unknown

Two cargo ships flying the Turkish flag collided in the Sea of Marmara off the coast of Silivri.

As 1news.az reports, citing Turkish media, the incident occurred at around 03:00 local time, 18 nautical miles south of Silivri. The vessel ALSU, traveling from Kocaeli to Aliağa, collided with the dry cargo ship TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU, which was traveling from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli.

Coast Guard boats, units of the Regional Command of the Sea of Marmara and the Straits, as well as a search-and-rescue helicopter were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident.

According to a preliminary inspection, the vessel ALSU did not sustain significant damage.

At the same time, contact was lost with the 10 crew members of the TUĞBERK İMAMOĞLU. A large-scale search-and-rescue operation involving naval and air forces is continuing in the area.
