Trump: When will the people of Iran rise up?
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he does not intend to seek agreements with Iran on ending the armed conflict.
«I am not trying to force Iran to sit down at the negotiating table, as the fake [American television channel] ABC News reported. I am completely indifferent as to whether they sign an agreement that has no value for them,» the American leader wrote on Truth Social.
According to Trump, the current situation suits him better. «I much prefer our current position, in which we almost completely control the Strait of Hormuz, and their economy is completely collapsing,» he noted. Trump added that Iran is only delaying the inevitable, asking the question: «When will the Iranian people rise up and wage the fight?»
The United States and Israel began the war with Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon.
However, on the night of July 8, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the agreements reached with regard to the Strait of Hormuz. About 25% of the world's oil trade volumes and approximately 20% of liquefied natural gas pass through it.
At the end of August, the U.S. administration effectively made it clear that it was abandoning the large-scale use of military force against Iran and intended to move toward an attempt at economic pressure on the country by means of sanctions.
