U.S. discusses halting trade with Iran's economic partners
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has sent negotiating teams to individual countries that are Iran's economic partners in order to persuade them to halt trade with the Islamic republic.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said this in an interview with Fox News.
«We have now brought all forces to bear. Teams from the Treasury Department, the State Department and the War Department have gone abroad, we are holding very substantive talks with everyone who supports the [Iranian] regime,» Bessent noted.
He emphasized that at the current stage the goal of the United States is to exert maximum economic pressure on Iran in order to compel the republic to agree to a deal to settle the conflict on American terms. Bessent did not disclose which specific countries are currently involved in the talks on restricting trade with Iran. He also declined to answer the television channel's question about whether the United States had approached Russia with similar initiatives.
