U.S. to ban imports of some goods from Canada
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to ban, starting September 29, the delivery to the United States of some Canadian goods, including certain types of alcohol, dairy products, and motorcycles.
This is stated in documents published by the White House.
As follows from them, the goods mentioned are "prohibited from importation into the United States" as of September 29 because of "discriminatory actions" by the Canadian side in the sphere of trade. In addition, the United States has expanded the list of Canadian products that will be subject to duties of 50%. These measures will take effect on September 15. The aforementioned list includes certain aluminum and steel products, as well as furniture and paper. At the same time, cement and technical salt, in particular, have been excluded from the list.
Earlier on September 8, Trump instructed the relevant U.S. agencies to exclude Canadian products from government procurement plans worth $50 billion a year.
