Death toll from flooding in Nepal approaches 1,400
The number of victims of the flooding in Nepal has risen to 1,396.
This was reported by China Central Television (CCTV), citing the authorities of the Asian republic.
On the morning of August 26, a powerful flood struck Nepal suddenly. It was caused by an earthquake and a landslide in Tibet, which blocked the channel of the Lhende River. Its breakthrough caused a sharp rise in the water level of the Bhote Koshi River.
According to the latest data, a total of 2,500 people are listed as missing, and most of them are foreigners. Among them are 11 citizens of the Russian Federation.
As the republic's finance minister, Swarnim Wagle, reported, the country will need about $4–5 billion to deal with the consequences of the flooding. These figures are preliminary, since the damage assessment is still ongoing.
