U.S. court blocks changes to visa rules for journalists and students

The Federal District Court of the State of Massachusetts has suspended, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings, the entry into force of new rules for the issuance by U.S. authorities of visas to foreign journalists, students, and individuals arriving under exchange programs.

This is stated in the ruling.

The plaintiff in this case is the nonprofit organization The Presidents Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, which brings together about 600 colleges and universities, while the defendant is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "The plaintiffs' motion is granted in the part concerning the postponement of the date of the final rule's entry into force," the ruling of Judge Dennis Saylor states.

In July, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced changes to the rules for issuing visas to foreign journalists, students, and individuals arriving under exchange programs, limiting their stay in the country to a fixed term of 240 days. For citizens of China, it is proposed to limit the aforementioned term to 90 days.
