Merz's party rating falls to a historic low

The approval rating of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has fallen to 18%, the party's worst result in polls at the federal level.

This is indicated by data from a sociological study conducted by the YouGov company.

In the company's previous poll in August, 20% of respondents were ready to support the CDU. The party's rating set a historic anti-record a week after the failed elections to the regional parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.

The previous time such a low level of support for the Christian Democrats was recorded by the research company Forsa in a poll in September 2021 (19%).

The first position in the rating was taken by the "Alternative for Germany" (29%, plus 1 percentage point). In third and fourth place are the "Greens" (16%, plus 1 percentage point) and the Social Democrats (13%, plus 1 percentage point).

Another 10% of respondents supported the "Left" party (minus 2 percentage points); support for the liberal Free Democratic Party, according to the poll, is fluctuating at the level of 5%, the threshold for entering parliament.

The poll was conducted from September 11 to 14. It involved 1,800 people. The margin of error does not exceed 2.3 percentage points.
