Argentine leader plans to tighten sanctions against companies operating in the Falkland Islands

Argentine President Javier Milei is preparing a bill this week to tighten sanctions against companies operating in the Falkland Islands.

According to analysts, this move heightens uncertainty over whether it will escalate tensions with Great Britain by affecting other sectors of the disputed islands' economy.

The proposed bill would be a continuation of the sanctions proceedings that, according to the Argentine government, have been initiated against at least 60 companies and individuals linked to offshore oil exploration around the islands, which Argentina calls the Malvinas and claims as its own, despite the fact that they are administered by Great Britain.
