U.S. State Department approves sale of air defense systems and munitions to Ukraine worth $2.68 billion

The United States has approved a possible sale of air defense systems and munitions to Ukraine for a total of $2.68 billion.

As 1news.az reports, this was stated in a statement on the State Department's website.

The document notes that Ukraine requested the opportunity to purchase analogues of missiles for S-300 air defense systems, GAM-67 missiles, extended-range laser-guided rocket systems, self-propelled launchers, drone detection systems, upgrade kits for mobile launchers, as well as related equipment and repair and maintenance services.

The State Department emphasizes that these are items that do not fall into the category of major military equipment and weaponry. The agency proceeds from the assumption that the weapons will be paid for with funds transferred to Ukraine by European countries, as well as by the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden under the Foreign Military Financing mechanism, which provides foreign states with grants and loans for the purchase of American weapons.
