Araghchi: Tehran will withstand any new round of aggression

Tehran is ready both for a new round of aggression and for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict with Washington, leaving the choice to U.S. President Donald Trump, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

"We are fully prepared if the war resumes, and I repeat, we will withstand any new round of aggression, even if it is a doomsday war. At the same time, we are ready for diplomacy. The choice is up to President Trump," Araghchi noted in an interview with NBC News.

Commenting on Trump's rejection of the recent proposals by the Iranian side regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the minister remarked that Tehran had not been officially informed of this rejection through intermediaries.

He emphasized that Iran wants the strait to be opened as part of an agreement to end the conflict and in exchange for the unfreezing of assets.

"We want to be able to sell our oil," Araghchi said.

According to the head of the foreign ministry, Tehran's conditions are "not new" and coincide with what was set out in the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran in June.

On Friday night, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said in an interview with Fox News that it is up to Washington to choose when the conflict with Tehran will be ended.

On Saturday, Trump said that he rejects the Iranian plan to de-escalate tensions, which envisaged the adoption of a number of de-escalation measures within seven days. In particular, Tehran was ready to restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for an end to the American naval blockade of Iran.
