At least 62 people have died as a result of several days of heavy rains and the resulting floods in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, the Associated Press reported on Monday, citing state authorities.

According to their data, 46 people were injured and more than a thousand homes were damaged.

In some districts of the state, including the capital Lucknow, educational institutions have been closed, and rescue teams are evacuating people from flooded areas to safer places.
