Iranian passenger plane seized at Istanbul airport

An incident involving a passenger plane of the Iranian airline Caspian Airlines occurred at the Istanbul airport.

The aircraft, which was preparing to operate a flight, was detained right before taxiing onto the runway.

The reason for the seizure was the airline's large financial debts. The Iranian carrier had accumulated a debt of about 3 million euros to the Turkish company ACM Temsil Gözetim, which provides ground handling and dispatch support services.

Due to the nonpayment of the debt, the creditor turned to a Turkish court, which ruled to seize the airline's property as an interim measure.

At the time the bailiffs and law enforcement officers arrived on board, the plane was fully ready for departure, and the passengers and baggage were in place. At the demand of the officials, people were urgently taken out of the cabin and returned to the airport terminal.

Alternative flight options are currently being arranged for the passengers of the canceled flight. The plane will remain under seizure until Caspian Airlines fully repays the debt or provides the court with financial guarantees.
