His Majesty will raise a glass: Charles III welcomes U.S. tariff removal on whisky
King Charles III of the United Kingdom has welcomed the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to remove tariffs on Scottish whisky at his request.
This was stated in a release from a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.
"The King has been informed of the warm gesture from President Trump. He extends his heartfelt thanks for the decision, which will significantly impact the British whisky industry and the people employed in it. His Majesty will raise a glass of whisky in appreciation of the President’s attention and generous hospitality," the statement read.
On April 30, Trump announced that, at the request of Charles III, he would lift tariffs in the Scottish whisky production sector. Bloomberg reported that due to these tariff measures, the UK loses approximately $27 million per month in this industry.
Charles III made a state visit to the United States from April 27-30. He addressed Congress and was received by Trump at the White House.
