Araghchi: 'The Pentagon is lying'

The United States, contrary to the Pentagon's assessments, has spent approximately $100 billion on strikes against Iran, with indirect costs to the American people being even higher.

This opinion was expressed by the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Abbas Araghchi.

"The Pentagon is lying. The adventure of [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu has already cost America $100 billion, which is four times the declared amount. The indirect costs for American taxpayers are much higher. The monthly bill for each American family is $500 and is rising rapidly," he wrote on X. The "Israel first" approach means "America last," the minister concluded.

On April 29, the acting Deputy U.S. Secretary of Defense for Finance, Jules Hurst, stated that the United States had spent about $25 billion on the military operation against Iran. He clarified that these were preliminary estimates.

The U.S. and Israel began a war against Iran on February 28. On April 7, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with the Islamic Republic. According to Iranian sources, over 40 days of war, 3,375 Iranians were killed as a result of American-Israeli strikes. On April 11, Tehran and Washington held talks in Islamabad, but the parties failed to reach an agreement on long-term conflict resolution due to several disagreements. On April 21, Trump announced his intention to extend the ceasefire regime with Iran. As reported by Iranian state television, Tehran does not intend to recognize the unilaterally declared extension of the ceasefire by Washington and will act in accordance with its own interests.
