Kobakhidze and Zelenskyy hold first meeting in five years

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit.

This was reported by the press service of the Georgian government.

"At the meeting, which took place at the initiative of the Ukrainian side, the discussion focused on relations between the two countries. The foreign ministers of both countries also participated in the meeting," the statement said.

Representatives of the Georgian and Ukrainian authorities have not met since 2021. In August 2021, during an official visit to Kyiv, Irakli Garibashvili, who was then the Prime Minister of Georgia, met with Zelenskyy.

On February 25, 2022, Garibashvili announced that he did not plan to impose sanctions on Russia, citing national interests. In early March of the same year, Zelenskyy recalled the ambassador from Tbilisi due to the Georgian authorities' stance on sanctions. This decision by the Georgian government was also criticized by the opposition, which accused the republic's authorities of collaborating with Russia.
