Minsk sharply rebukes speaker of Armenian parliament

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus responded to the speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, who earlier stated that "Armenia should not become a province and be governed like Belarus."

The statement was made in the context of Russian interference in electoral processes. In Minsk, these remarks by the parliamentary speaker were called "pre-election populism and an attempt to distract their own electorate from the most severe internal problems."

"Belarus is a sovereign state that independently determines the format of its allied relations with Russia. We are proud of this cooperation and will not allow anyone to lecture us. Attempts to drag Minsk into internal political squabbles under the slogans of mythical interference are a gross violation of basic diplomatic etiquette," the ministry stated.

The results of the so-called "balanced" pro-Western course of official Yerevan are evident: depopulation, chronic economic instability, and complete foreign policy dependence, forcing it to puppet-like serve foreign summits, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted. At the same time, the Belarusian side hopes that Armenian partners will return to constructive dialogue, in the spirit of genuinely friendly relations and strategic partnership.
