All Moscow airports suspend flight operations

Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport has suspended the arrival and departure of aircraft.

This was announced by the airport's press service on their Telegram channel.

The statement specifies that temporary restrictions have been introduced due to the activation of the 'Carpet' plan.

'Passengers should be prepared for longer waiting times during flight servicing due to measures being taken to ensure safety,' the press service emphasized.

They also warned that adjustments may be made to the flight schedule.

Earlier, restrictions on the arrival and departure of aircraft were also imposed at other Moscow airports—Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky. The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) clarified that these measures were taken to ensure flight safety.

The 'Carpet' plan is a regime of closed airspace for all aircraft, which can be introduced for a variety of reasons, including sudden weather changes and the threat of drone attacks.

On the night of May 5, 289 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed over Russian territory. Some of the targets were neutralized on approach to Moscow, according to the country's Ministry of Defense.

Previously, restrictions on flight operations were introduced at 15 Russian airports.
