Trump names possible successors
American President Donald Trump stated that after the end of his term, Republicans may nominate an "ideal team" to govern the country.
He named Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as strong contenders for the upcoming elections, The Hill reported.
"JD, it could be you, many other people. Will it be JD or someone else? I don't know," the head of state said at a dinner in the Rose Garden of the White House, which was held as part of Police Officers Week.
At the event, Trump invited those present to express their preferences — which of the two politicians they sympathize with: Vance or Rubio. After applause, Trump called them a "dream team," while not specifying who exactly, in his opinion, should become president and who vice president.
"It sounds great for the ballot: JD and Marco. Ideal candidates. By the way, I believe this is a dream team," he added.
Republicans will have to determine a new presidential candidate before the November 2028 elections, since, according to the US Constitution, Trump will not be able to run for a third term.
