WHO does not observe signs of the start of a larger hantavirus outbreak

There are no signs yet of the start of a larger-scale Andes hantavirus outbreak, but the number of cases may increase in the coming weeks.

This was stated by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

"At the moment, there are no signs that we are seeing the start of a larger-scale outbreak of the disease," he said at a press conference following a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

At the same time, Ghebreyesus emphasized that "the situation may change." "Given the long incubation period of the virus, it is quite possible that the number of cases will increase in the coming weeks," he explained.
