Iran tenfold expands zone of its operations in Strait of Hormuz, IRGC says

Iran has expanded the zone of its operations in the Strait of Hormuz 10 times, said Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran Mohammad Akbarzadeh.

“At the moment, within the framework of the new plan, the borders of the Strait of Hormuz have expanded significantly... In other words, the Strait of Hormuz has become 'larger,' turning into a vast operational zone,” the agency Tasnim quotes him as saying.

According to him, earlier Iran considered the zone of the Strait of Hormuz to be a section up to 30 miles—from the island of Hormuz to the island of Hengam. Now, added Akbarzadeh, it is a section of 200-300 miles, including the zone from the coast of the port city of Jask to the east of the Strait of Hormuz and extending beyond the islands of Qeshm and Greater Tunb to the west of the waterway itself.
