Xi Jinping: incorrect solution to the Taiwan issue threatens conflict between China and the U.S.
Wrong approach to settling the Taiwan issue is capable of provoking a direct clash between Beijing and Washington.
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated this during negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump.
"The Taiwan question is the most important in Chinese-American relations. If it is resolved properly, relations between the two countries will be able to maintain overall stability. If not, the two states will clash or even enter into conflict, which will put the entire complex of bilateral ties in an extremely dangerous position," Central Television of China quotes Xi Jinping as saying.
The Chairman of the PRC added that the desire for "independence of the island" and peace in the region exclude each other.
According to him, maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait is the most important factor for relations between China and the United States.
