EU and US welcome announcement of start of bilateral trade between Turkey and Armenia
The European Union and the US have welcomed as a significant event the start of bilateral trade relations between Turkey and Armenia.
"The EU warmly welcomes Turkey's statement on the start of bilateral trade with Armenia. This is a significant event in the process of normalizing relations, which is also confirmed by the recent meeting on April 28 of the bilateral working group on restoring railway communication between the two countries," said an official representative of the European External Action Service (EEAS).
According to him, this important step could contribute to expanding trade and economic opportunities between the two countries, having a positive impact on the entire South Caucasus, as well as on the EU.
"We call on both countries to continue cooperation, including in the direction of opening the common border," the EEAS representative's statement said.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Yerevan also welcomed in its statement the announcement on lifting restrictions on bilateral trade between Armenia and Turkey.
"This step demonstrates the commitment of the two countries to expanding economic ties and stimulating sustainable peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. The ongoing efforts of Armenia and Turkey to strengthen cooperation for the benefit of the well-being of the peoples of the region deserve praise," the statement said.
